Tacman provides navigational information through tactile grids to assist independent travel for the visually impaired. The surrounding street map is relayed through the right hand grid and upcoming turns through the left. The grid system is fluid and can mould to the information required as shown left. User research and feedback stressed orientation and direction as the fundamental information needed for confident independent travel.
The sequence displayed above is a visual demonstration on the functionality of Tacman's grid and how one side depicts the relief of the buildings and street surrounding the user to provide orientation. Below is a sketch up on the versatility of the grid system
In a separated state, each half of the control can operate respectively to allow for either ease of movement for user, or single-handed use.
